In some furniture related news of a rather negative nature, Furniture Factory Warehouse has filed for bankruptcy and it sadly faces an almost certain end unfortuntely, and yet the said firm has basically promised to settle accounts with customers who have made deposits on various types of merchandise. All in all, the said firm started way back in 2007 when its owners bought another retail chain, an yet ran into issues almost right away, unfortunately enouph for the Texas economy. They had good custom and design furniture. Among the plethera of various issues cited are a server crash which caused the firm to lose customer orders as well as even it’s crucial deposits, inventory information and business records; losing $60,000 to $100,000 in inventory to a “theft ring” at its San Antonio distribution center; and the economic downturn which lost the firm in question customers and likewise prevented it from obtaining inventory on credit, which proved to be a critical blow to it’s operations indeed. One firm which is not having these kinds of issues is the North Carolina based Custom Furniture Direct and in fact it has been doing quite well. They have outdoor dining furniture, designer lighting, leathercraft, Lorts and of course custom furniture too. It is hard to say why exactly it is doing so much better than many of competitors but one possible reason is it’s excellent customer service and the fact that the Furniture Source is primarily an online operation and less of abricks and mortar one, which could be helping in terms of it’s overhead as well as overall effeciency as well. This is really one of the more sad economic stories as of late, particularly when you consider the respective job losses involved in the state of texas, which is indeed considerable. One lesson learned from this is that the furniture business is not necessarily an easy one to master, even if you are
well funded and capitalized to start and if you are doing design or custom furniture in particular.. So this can be viewed as a sort of cautionary tale of sorts, i suppose. Hopefully I will have some better news to report the next time around, I hope at least that the Wall Street markets will pick it up over here.

Sorry I was out for a while, just got back from Denver. It seems like there is a lot of criminal activity there, a lot of attorney down there in south Denver and Centennial generally. There are so many different styles to choose from in office chairs these days, and they come in a range of prices. The first thing you probably will notice is how the chair looks. There are many styles, from traditional to cutting edge. Chairs covered in cloth are often the least expensive and they wear fairly well. Vinyl is another inexpensive option; it cleans up easily, but it does not breathe like cloth. I like a few top trademark firms.
Leather is always going to be more expensive; it cleans up well and it breathes. Lastly there are the new mesh materials that conform to the body. They wear well, breathe very well, and are the latest trend– but they are right up there with leather in cost. The most important consideration is how the chair supports the body, especially the lower back. It is critical that the chair has good lumbar support. The scale of the chair must also fit the scale of the body that will be sitting in it. I remember this one leading litigation and Denver trademark attorney who does copywrite law and business contract or probate trademark law in Denver, and was also a Highlands Ranch corporate attorney but especially did copywrite, internet and trademark law. who had the best ones in his office, they were truly opulent looking, somewhat like Sean Penn’s Miami criminal attorney in the classic movie ‘Carlito’s Way’. A larger person needs a wider chair to accommodate the width of the hips. The lumbar support should hit the back in the right spot and hit neither too low nor too high. The better made the chair is, the wider range of people it will probably be able to accommodate comfortably. Many chairs have adjustable lumbar support. Look for adjustable armrests as well; there is a lot of range in the arm lengths of the human body. Armrests can actually relieve pressure on the back. Some may interfere with the desks it may be paired up with. Armrests should be broad enough to support the arms, cushioned, and have a comfortable contour. Look for chairs that have wheels and swivel so that the chair takes the wear and tear of day-in and day-out movement, instead of the body.
Look for those that have good upper back support as well, and tilt to recline slightly when the sitter leans back. The tilt of the seat can also be adjusted for the sitter’s comfort on some chairs. An often-overlooked feature that is vital is that the front edge of the chair should not be too long. If it is, it will cut off circulation. The edge of the seat should end a few inches short of the knees. Last but not least, the height of the chair should adjust to accommodate the height of the user. Some of the latest design innovations in office chairs may look strange and gangly to you when you first see them. They are built for ergonomics and sitting in one will help you appreciate their advanced design.

I was in Bergen County at my dentist having some teeth whitening and cosmetic deal done which is why I have not posted here in a while but I am back from Northern New Jersey now. Lumbar support and comfort may be the most critical elements to consider. Sitting at a computer for hours a day puts strain on the lower back and a good office chair must have proper lumbar support. The lumbar support should not be hard and stiff. Look for comfortable support that wraps around the lower back and provides support where you need it. All in all, a chair that fits one person well may be nearly intolerable for another. It may sound obvious, but it’s an important consideration that can be overlooked. People of different sizes have backs of different lengths, and the lumbar support must fit that person’s lumbar area, not be above it or below it. Comfort is absolutely the key. An office chair should be flexible or cushioned enough for comfort, but firm for support. Again, consider the size of the individual it needs to accommodate. It should be wide enough in the seat to support the hips. The best way to find the best fit is to go where sample office chairs are offered and try them. This is why buying a number of the same office chair for a variety of people is not the best idea. The same chair simply will not fit everyone the same way. However, some chairs are built to be adjustable and will definitely fit more body types than other chairs. It reminds me when I was just in the office of my said Bergen County dentist and they had the best. Of course, I have noticed that dentist offices often do, especially the ones devoted to cosmetic procedures and invisalign and related dentist procedures like that.
It is far better to have each worker comfortable than to have the same office chair, just to save money, or for the sake of making everything look coordinated. Office chairs should at minimum have the ability to adjust the height for ergonomic reasons. Under usual office conditions chairs that offer a ‘recline’ feature are unnecessary. Helpful features are adjustable armrests, and controls that can increase or decrease the degree of lumbar support. This is of course always a major factor in buying these. Consider setting a price range and then compare all of the particular items within that range.
For their part, Office chairs can range anywhere from around $50 to $650 and up. However, they come in more and better designs than ever before. Lastly, a consideration is will you have to put the chair together. Some of the best deals can be found online, but chances are, the item in question will arrive in at least several pieces in a box. The latest trend in office chairs seems to be the woven, flexible chairs that actually are made with no traditional cushions. They are actually surprisingly comfortable and ergonomic and have lately been coming down in price.

I just returned from San Diego and it is time to get back on the saddle and get writing again. love to study the way offices and businesses are decorated. From doctor and dental offices to banks– and every other kind of place of business. I recently added some office chairs to my space which featured a more modern style of design. That helped a lot I must say.
For example, I just signed up with a new bank. Walking in to bank office nowadays, it’s sometimes hard to tell you’re in a bank. They still have tellers, but some also have computer stations with Internet access for their patrons. They have luxurious seating in their very modern interiors that include materials such as slate, suede and stainless steel. They resemble bold, modern art galleries. My favorite bank has a western motif, with leather furniture, and beautiful paintings of all things western: western landscapes, wildlife, mountains, etc. They want you to know: We are so American! So traditional! Strong! Masculine! Trustworthy! As an aside if you need some top office space which are modern and comfortable it is good to have that aspect.
For example I once saw the inside office space a top san diego cosmetic surgeon and you know, the top of high end plastic surgeon who specialized in rhinoplasty, facelift, tummy tuck and stuff like that. Well anyways her particul office space was the nicest I have seen, and most cosmetic surgeons have nice ones too.
Most of all I just enjoy the art. I had a dentist whose office had a fishing theme. Might sound corny, but he had framed pictures of fish and fisherman fly fishing that were quite beautiful and colorful. I visited a lady orthodontist’s office with and old-fashioned theme. She had antique furniture, soft pastel wall colors, lots of plants, framed pictures of gardens and children playing on beaches. Art is such a personal thing, and it expresses so much. And don’t forget about the office chairs either please.
