I got back from Los Angeles recently (was talking to a probate attorney over there regarding someone else) and I saw Lorena Bobbitt on a TV show there. She seemed like a very nice woman. It was hard to believe this was the woman who made the world cringe when she sliced off her husband’s penis with a knife from their kitchen. People generally seem to be turned off by the abuse excuse, as in Lorena’s case where she was found not guilty by reason of insanity. It was argued by Lorena’s attorney that she suffered from battered woman’s syndrome that triggered a brief episode of psychosis. It was brought on when her husband, John, came home after a night of partying and tried to rape her, and then passed out.

It seemed to have been established in court that John Bobbitt liked violent intercourse, and that Lorena Bobbitt had suffered years of perverted mental and physical abuse. He was acquitted recently (2004) of battering family members when he got into a tussle with his stepson. Bobbitt has worked as adult film actor, hosted a brothel, and has worked as a bartender. In 2004, he told the press he intended avoiding trouble, and wanted to become a furniture mover and join the teamsters. That might be a good for for him, but we will have to wait and see.
